She grew up in Santa Barbara, attending Bishop Garcia Diego High School, Santa Barbara City College and UCSB, where she earned her BA and teaching credential. She went on to earn a masters degree at UC Riverside.
After two years traveling around the world as a reading instructor, she settled in Southern California, teaching high school in Lake Elsinore, Long Beach and finally at University High School, where she established a top notch journalism program.
Olga earned her National Board Certification, published a textbook series on journalism, and served as president of the Los Angeles Journalism Teachers' Association. She guided her students toward regional, state and national awards, and mentored both English and journalism teachers. Olga also volunteered her time with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for nearly twenty years in Long Beach.
