Panayiotis "Peter"
Georgitsis
June 12, 1930 – July 1, 2021
Peter Georgitsis passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on July 1st, 2021 at his home in Whittier, California with his wife at his side. He was 91 years old. He leaves behind his wife Vasiliki "Kiki" of 59 years, his daughters Maria Auerbach and Katherine Feles, his sons-in-law Art Auerbach and Aristedes Feles, and his grandchildren Kathryn Auerbach (21), Christopher Auerbach (19), Thomas Feles (16) and Sophia Feles (15). Everyone knew Peter as a kind, generous, honest and devout Orthodox Christian. His big heart, quick wit, infectious smile and love will be dearly missed dearly. We take great comfort in knowing he is eternally in God's care.
Peter was born on June 12, 1930 in Greece to Christos and Maria Georgitsis (deceased) in a small town just outside Athens - Koropi. He was older brother to sisters Anastasia Kitsinis (deceased) and Katerina Petrou. Although the family had suffered the consequences of a world war, a civil war and the Great Depression, they managed countless hardships to stay together and survive.
Endlessly curious and a natural-born tinkerer, Peter was trained in electrical engineering with the Greek Navy ultimately specializing in telecommunications. He had achieved the rank of Lieutenant in the submarine service eventually leading to a technology position at the NATO offices in Athens. In 1958, he was offered the opportunity to further his profession and emigrate to Toronto, Canada.
On a visit back to Greece in 1962, Peter left Canada as a single and returned married after meeting Vasiliki "Kiki" Koronia. After a successful career in the electronics industry, Peter's young family had had enough of the harsh Canadian winters and emigrated to Los Angeles, California to join the aerospace boom in 1966.
In the early seventies, crisis in the electronics industry resulted in lay-offs and Peter was not spared. He found another opportunity in the restaurant business when he was offered a partnership in hamburger stand in South Los Angeles called Boy's Hamburgers. Over the next 40 years, Peter and his family opened three more locations in Cerritos, La Mirada and Rancho Mirage, California.
Having pursued and achieved the American Dream, Peter retired in 1990 to enjoy time with family and friends, traveling with Kiki to Greece and other favorite places. Most of all, Peter enjoyed his grandchildren and was most pleased when surrounded by family.
