Peggy "Pagonia"
Aronis
August 3, 1932 – February 1, 2022
Peggy Aronis, affectionately known as Pagonia, was born in 1932, in Athens, Greece. She was four years old when her mother, Margarita, took Peggy and her younger brother Spiro to the United States. There they rejoined their father, Dino, who had prepared the way. The family settled in Los Angeles.
Peggy's first desire was to become an actress, but Dino steered his daughter towards music. Through hard work and talent Peggy became an accomplished classical pianist. She won first prize at the Hollywood Bowl and played Rachmaninov's First Piano Concerto with full orchestra on live radio.
Peggy graduated from Scripts College in Pomona and attended UCLA for a teaching credential. Much of her time was spent in the theatre department where she became known as "queen of the one-acts." There she was able to enjoy the stage and live-out her dream of becoming an actress.
In 1964 Peggy married Constantine, affectionately known as Dean. They were married at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles and had three children. Tragically, their first born, Melina, succumbed to leukemia when she was only four-and-a-half. Peggy's poem to Melina expressed that one day they would again be united in love, an expression of hope and faith that has now been fulfilled.
Peggy met her obligations as a wife, mother, businesswoman, and friend with self-deprecating humor, thoughtfulness, intelligence, and charm. A standout quality was her curiosity and interest in life - she was completely absorbed by all of it. She appreciated both the beauty and difficulty of life while recognizing an ultimate purpose to the same. She was extraordinary…
She is survived by her beloved husband Dean, her two sons, Vasili (his wife Patricia and sons Dean & Nick) and Athan (his wife Anna and daughters Margaret & Mary).
May her memory be eternal...
