Obituary

Raymond Leo Lopez, 64, passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2017 at his home in Fountain Valley, California. He was born in Colorado to Ben and Margarita Lopez. He was the fourth of seven children, preceded in death by Sandra, Richard, and James. Surviving siblings are Ben, Sandy, and Tony.

Ray graduated from El Monte High School in 1971, where he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Karen. They were happily married for 43 wonderful years. At school he was very active in sports and service clubs.

He is survived by his children — Aubrey Stevens (Jeff), Ronnie Lopez (KaLee), Alisa Padilla (Alex), Katie Lopez, Kari Lopez — and his grandchildren — Kara Stevens, Brooke Stevens, Easton Lopez, Kendree Lopez, Devynee Lopez, Brynlee Lopez, Hallee Lopez, Norah Padilla, and Tessa Padilla. His family meant everything to him. He was always playing with and lovingly teasing his grandchildren. He was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Ray was devoted to his family and faith and was a pillar of his community. He touched the lives of everyone he met. Ray loved being with his children, and volunteered much of his time in their activities, including scouting and coaching youth sports.

He was a kind-hearted, gentle, caring man, giving his time and talents to those in need, and was loved by those who knew him. Ray's energy was contagious — he had a tremendous sense of humor and always knew how to make people smile. Among some of his hobbies were woodworking and photography. Most people will remember Ray as being the one behind the camera, providing lasting memories to countless people. Ray was truly a hero to his children and grandchildren who miss him immensely.

Funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 26th at the Fountain Valley Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 17500 Bushard, Fountain Valley, CA.
