Stephan A
Bicos
December 30, 1934 – January 20, 2019
Stephan A. Bicos, long time resident of San Marino, CA, passed away at his home on January 20, 2019 at the age of 84 and was surrounded by his loving family.
Steve was born in Tourlada, Kalavriton, Greece to Andreas and Angeliki Bicos. The youngest of four children, he left Greece on his own at the young age of 15 and arrived in Peoria, Illinois in 1951. Shortly thereafter he settled in Pasadena, California and began a long and successful restaurant career.
At the young age of 19, Steve owned and operated his first of several restaurants, where he was known by patrons and employees alike for his strong work ethic, generosity and infectious smile. Up until his very last week, Steve could be found greeting and charming patrons at The Original Tops where he undoubtedly left a memorable impact on all who knew him.
Above all, he took great pride in the family he created with his wife whom he adored, Marietta. A long time member of Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena, Steve was actively involved in his church community. When he was not spending time with family or at Tops, Steve enjoyed golf with dear and cherished friends in Palm Springs. He looked forward to annual trips to Greece with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, to whom he was married for 53 years; his adoring children, Angela, Chris (Eleni) and John (Allison); and his six grandchildren, Niko, Tessa, Evangeline, Valentina, Alex and Mariella. He is also survived by his sister, Asimo, nephew Dino (who Steve lovingly referred to as his "third son") and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11am at Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, 778 South Rosemead Boulevard, Pasadena, CA. Makaria luncheon to follow in the Trinity Ballroom. All are welcome to the internment at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Saint Anthony Philoptochos (778 South Rosemead Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91107).
