Theodora Kapogianis
October 3, 1926- December 6, 2015
Theodora Kapogianis, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and great grandmother passed away peacefully with her family on her side on December 6, 2015.
Theodora, or Theodoroula (Te?d?????a) as everyone called her, was born in Kapsia Arcadias on October 3, 1926 to Ioannis and Marigo Giannikas. She survived the German occupation and the civil war as a teenager, which had a great influence in her life making stronger, fearless and appreciative of simple things in life. In September 1949 she married Vasilios Kapogianis also from Kapsia. They lived in Kapsia until November 1967 when they moved to the United States with their children Kostoula, Kostas and Yianni. Making the adjustment from working on the family farm in Greece to working in the Downtown Los Angeles garment district was hard, but she loved life in America and was grateful for the opportunities available to her children. The family moved from the city of Bell to Fullerton in 1975 when she started working at her friend's bridal shop where she loved working on bridal dresses. Later, she loved helping at her son's restaurant until her early eighties. Retirement was not in her plans. She always loved sewing and spent much of her time making clothes for herself and friends.
Theodoroula had a passion for life and had no fear of embracing new endeavors. She will be remembered for her pride and devotion to her family, hard work and tireless contributions to all around around her. The Greek words "Eikani and Drastiria" (??a?? –able capable; d?ast???a- active, effective & energetic) would more accurately describe her. Her children credit her tireless care and attention for her husband as a significant reason for his ability to endure health issues and survive until the age of 94. She loved inviting friends over for "Loukoumathes". She never forgot her village Kapsia and all her relatives and friends there, and was looking forward to visiting most summers. The annual "mageiritsa" at Saint John's was her initiative and we started with her recipe.
YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED! YOU WERE TRULY THE BEST!
