Theodore Peter
Maniatakos
February 19, 1927 – January 20, 2021
Theodore Peter Maniatakos was born on February 19, 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island to Peter and Canella Maniatakos. His sisters from oldest to youngest were Antonia, Rania, Betty, Corinne, and Helen, with Theodore being the youngest in the family. He served in the Navy during World War II as a third class storekeeper. As a young man he was in the restaurant business and eventually, he went into real estate. He took a liking to it and remained there until he retired.
In 1950, his first son Theodore Maniatakos Jr. was born. The birth of his son was one of the greatest joys in Ted's life. Later on in life, he sought after and married Maria Kostas and his family of two became seven, with her adult sons Perry, James, Christopher, and Steven.
One of Ted's hobbies has always been playing golf. He was originally part of the Greek Army golf club. In recent days, he was a member of the Sportsmens golf club and continued to enjoy his lifelong hobby.
Ted was the steward of several churches including Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles, Saint Nicholas in Northridge, Saint Demetrios in Camarillo, Saint John in Las Vegas, and Saint Nectarios in Greece. He was also a main benefactor for his home parish of Saint Sophia Cathedral. One of Ted's greatest accomplishments was being awarded the honor of becoming and archon named Dikaiophylax in 2015. Ted had dedicated most of his life to his family, faith, and Hellenism. He will be deeply missed by all.
Private funeral at 1:30pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. Services viewable on the church live stream. He is given the honor of being interred at the chapel at Saint Sophia Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to Saint Sophia Cathedral.
