Tina
Tsoutsas
August 15, 1961 – April 1, 2019
Tina Tsoutsas, 57, passed away peacefully at her home in Arcadia, California on Monday, April 1, 2019 after a brief but intense battle with glioblastoma.
Tina was born August 15, 1961 into the Achilles family, Greek immigrants who settled in Arcadia in the 1920s. She attended Holly Avenue Elementary School, First Avenue Junior High School, and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1979, and was proud to be a resident of Arcadia for her entire life.
She brought zest to everything she did: from her days as a cocktail waitress at The Roxy, to working at the famed Rialto Theater in South Pasadena, to her almost forty-year career in finance – including more than two decades as an administrative assistant at the Capital Group in Los Angeles – Tina loved getting to know and serving people and brought happiness and sunshine to all who she encountered.
She was an avid photographer who chronicled the lives of her friends and family, meticulously assembling volumes of photo albums. Tina also adored music and musicals, and her loved ones made sure she was surrounded by music throughout her illness.
Tina truly loved life; she found joy and humor in each and every day and shared that joy with those around her. She touched many lives with her beauty, compassion, quick wit, generosity, and devotion to her Greek Orthodox faith.
Tina was a dedicated daughter who for many years was committed to the loving care of her mother, Kyriaki Achilles Tsoutsas, until her death in 2001.
She is survived by her sweetheart and partner of sixteen years, Gary Nissley, and their cherished cat, Sophie, who – according to Tina – is always "cuter than usual"; sister Zaferie Tsoutsas and beloved nephew PFC Jacob Westberg of Santa Cruz, California; her lifelong best friend, Cherie Andersen; and many loving cousins, friends, and colleagues who will miss her dearly.
The Trisagion will be on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 7:00pm and the funeral service will be on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11:00am. Both services will be held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. Interment will follow at the Serbian United Benevolent Society Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Saint Sophia Cathedral in Tina's memory.
