Todd Whiten Thomas, age 60, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family, and friends after a short battle with cancer. He was born on September 4, 1957 in La Porte, Indiana to Patricia Ann (Norrie) Thomas and Joseph Aaron Thomas, and was the oldest of three children. In 1969, Todd and his family relocated to Southern California. He graduated in 1975 from El Dorado High School in Placentia, CA with honors. He attended the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado following high school. He received his Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 1979 from San Diego State University, San Diego, CA. In 1986, Todd entered into a thirty year career with the Orange County Probation Department. He held many different Deputy Probation positions in the department. He loved his career. On April 27, 2007, he was promoted to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer assigned to Juvenile Court Services Division. He was actively employed until his death in the Department of Adult Investigations Court Services Division.
Todd loved to surf during his high school and college years in San Onofre, Newport Beach, and Ocean Beach. He was a longtime member of the Mensa Club, and enjoyed reading books from his vast home library. He never stopped learning. He owned several motorcycles and loved to "ride." Several months before the cancer diagnosis, he and Andy purchased similar BMW motorcycles specifically to ride together as brothers. He loved animals, especially small dogs. He shared his home with his 2 year old Chiweenie, Elwood. His other interests included: Space, Star Trek, classic rock music (especially Bob Dylan), sushi, and race cars.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Aaron Thomas, and nephew Connor Andrew Thomas. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Ann (Norrie) Tuohy; his stepfather, William F. Tuohy, his brother, David Andrew Thomas; his sister, Anne Elizabeth Perry; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Todd touched are invited to a memorial urn viewing at the Chapman Funeral Home, 702 East Chapman Avenue, Orange, CA 92886, (714) 628-0448 from 10 am - 12 pm on Sunday, April 8, 2018 to reminisce, grieve, and support each other.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Todd's name to his brother David "Andy" Thomas. Donations will benefit the Thomas Family Memorial located at Saint Paul Episcopal Church in La Porte, Indiana.
