Virginia Romeos was born on June 26, 1925 to Christos and Catherine Romeos in San Pedro, CA. She passed away on January 4, 2023, at the age of 97.

Virginia is survived by her son George Sinanis (Felita), daughter Kathy Ghyczy (Tom), granddaughter Jacqueline Nolan (Pat), and grandson Daniel Ghyczy (Spencer).

She is predeceased by her parents Christos and Catherine Romeos, and her brother George Romeos.

She was baptized in the original San Julian Street Church in Los Angeles, and was subsequently a longtime member of the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

She was born and raised in San Pedro, and graduated from San Pedro High School. As a young adult she lived in Alta Dena. She then moved to Los Angeles and West Hollywood, where she raised her children.

After that, she moved to Woodland Hills, where she spent her retirement years.

Virginia was a proud Greek American. She had a typical Greek up bringing for the time, attending Sunday School and Greek School, belonging to the Daughters of Penelope and the AHEPA family, enjoying Greek social events, and weekly Greek Picnics in the park after church.

She was known by many different nicknames; Vasiliki (her name in Greek that family called her), Koula (a Greek nickname that family called her), Virg (an American nickname that her brother and other family members affectionately called her), Virgie (given to her by her son-in-law Tom, that many called her), and let's not forget Yaya!

She loved the jobs that she held throughout her lifetime. As a young woman she worked at I Magnin department store in Pasadena. As a young adult she loved working at the Carnation Company. She then went on to work at Fedco Retail Store, and ultimately retired at Kemper Insurance Company, where she worked in the underwriting department. It was there that she developed many lifetime friendships.

As a single mom, and with the help of her parents, she was able to provide her children with a warm and loving upbringing. She loved taking her family on trips to Disneyland, Marineland, Busch Gardens, and Knotts Berry Farm, where she looked forward to their famous chicken dinner. She and her mother Rena regularly took Kathy, and dragged George, to Bullocks Westwood where they enjoyed a lovely Fashion Show, which included a five-star buffet. The ladies enjoyed the Fashion Show and George enjoyed the buffet! Her father Chris, affectionately known as Baba, was left behind where he enjoyed a moment of peace and a nice cigar.

Her greatest joy in life, was the love she had for her family. They meant the world to her. She spent her retirement years living in Woodland Hills, close to her daughter Kathy. She was able to spend all of her weekends babysitting for her grandchildren Jacqueline and Daniel, whom she adored. They were her pride and joy. They share wonderful memories of spending time at Yaya's house watching The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal.

Once she no longer drove, her Saturday ritual for years, was to have Kathy take her to the Beauty Shop and have George pick her up and take her for lunch. These were very memorable days for all.

We have very fond memories of traveling with her to New York and New Jersey for a Hungarian Wedding. Oh, how she loved the excitement and fun of New York City.

Virginia celebrated her 80th birthday in style, by traveling to Las Vegas to play the slot machines that she loved, as well as enjoying a party at Kathy and Tom's house, with all her friends and family present. We told her that we would do a repeat party when she turned 90, and her response was, "OH GOD NO"!

Well, needless to say she was a very strong 90-year-old, who indeed celebrated another party at Kathy and Tom's house, at which time she was threatened with a 100-year-old celebration. She did not hesitate for a moment to throw out another, "OH GOD NO"!

She will live in our hearts forever!

There will be a private service held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral on January 18, 2023, followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills.
