Walter Daniel
Posey
April 6, 1936 – February 14, 2021
Walter Daniel Posey passed away on February 14th, 2021 at his home in Mission Viejo, CA at the age of 84. He was born on April 6, 1936 to Ruben Raymond Posey and Gladys Sue Hilburn. He was raised on a farm in northern Alabama in a small town called Remlap. He was the oldest of 3 boys, brothers Billy and Bobby. Walter also had half siblings, Kenneth, Lonnie, Mark, and Frances. In high school he joined the Marine reserves Devil Pups and enlisted in 1955.
At the request of the Marines, Walter moved to California in 1957 where he met his love of his life, Janette Rose Robison. They had two daughters, Sheree and Jennifer. In 1959 he joined the Anaheim Police Department and was sergeant of detectives and the Juvenile Court liaison officer. Walter graduated magna cum laude from Pepperdine University and took the California bar in 1970. Walter practiced law for 24 years as a sole practitioner practicing criminal defense, personal injury, and family law in Anaheim. His wife, Janette, passed the California bar in 1976 and became his partner in Posey & Posey. In 1994, Walter became a Commissioner of the Orange County Superior Court.
Many who have known him have said that he treated everyone with respect who appeared in front of him, whether they were a lawyer or a pro per. His patience was astounding. Walter was known by the judges and attorneys in family law as bringing his wit and wisdom to the bench, while looking out to protect the children and families that appeared before him. After a lifetime of service, Walter left the bench and retired in 2010, after sitting on the Family Law Panel, Criminal Felony Panel and Juvenile Panel.
He and his wife Janette enjoyed ballroom dancing together, some nights at the Mission San Juan Capistrano. He was a cowboy at heart and he loved to see his daughter, Sheree, ride her horse Poppy, his soulmate, at horse shows. The family spent many trips skiing together. Walt and Jan had traveled together to the Middle East, the Holy Land, Europe including England, Scotland, and Greece. Walt and Jan enjoyed many days together at their second home in Sunriver Oregon. Walter was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being out on the water with his family. Most Father's Days were spent golfing with his daughter, Jennifer. He loved singing and country music. Walter is survived by his daughter, Sheree and husband Scott; his daughter Jennifer and husband Steve; grandchildren Aaron, Stephanie and Stephen; and the rest of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette, parents Raymond and Gladys, and his brothers Billy and Bobby.
