Wayne was a Southern California native. A long time resident of Newport Beach, Wayne spent most of his life on the Pacific Ocean. A legendary commercial fisherman, Wayne fished lobster, crab, swordfish, squid, black cod, etc. He navigated his many boats from Mexico to Alaska, living an honest life. Just prior to his passing, he expressed his relief, saying, "The Ocean is the last frontier, and the fences are all going up."
His loving wife Linda of 44 years, sons Cory, and Ivar, daughter Alison Ryffel and seven grandchildren survive Wayne. A burial at sea honoring the "Old Man of the Sea" will be on June 8th, with boats departing the Peninsula Point Bay Beach at 10 a.m. A celebration of life luncheon will follow.
Prayer For Ceremony
God grant that I may live to fish, until my dying day
And when it comes to my last trap, I then most humbly pray
When in the Lord's safe landing net, I'm peacefully asleep
That in his mercy I be judged, as big enough to keep
