Zoe Pilafas (nee Zoe Papagiannopoulou) died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange, California surrounded by her husband and children after a long illness.
She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She was a devoted wife for 52 years to Jim and was loved by her children Vicki Kayleigh (Jonathan) and Stavro (Despina) and her 8 grandchildren.
Zoe was born on January 10, 1941 in Amaliada, Ilias, Greece, the third of 3 children born to Gerasimo and Vasso Papagiannopoulos. She graduated from Amalias High School and Arizona State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Fullerton Elementary School District from September 1965 until June 2002. She retired to care for "her" twins, Owen and Henry. She also taught and supervised at the Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim, CA for 20 years.
While at Arizona State University she met Jim, her lifelong love, and 3 days after being graduated they walked down the aisle and were married on May 31, 1964. They moved to California and bought their first home in Placentia where Vicki and Stavro were born. In 1976 the family moved to their present home in Orange, California.
Many are the memories of annual vacations in Greece to visit family and as well as trips to Chicago, Phoenix and Las Vegas and Palm Springs. These trips grounded the family in wonderful experiences.
Zoe enjoyed watching her children grow and then create families of their own. She loved planning holidays and events throughout the year surrounded by her beloved family. She especially loved caring for her grandkids and being part of their lives. Jakob, Owen, Henry, Dimitri and Zoe - Yia Yia loves you!
Visitation and Trisagion will take place at 7 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church at 405 N. Dale Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92801. Her funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 27, 2016 also at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint John the Baptist Church would be appreciated.
